There is no way for you to run a business without the Internet and an online presence. But you want to make sure that your business and your information is going to be secure while you are online. There are things that you can do so that you can keep everything secure online and keep your business secure. 

Create a Plan

One thing you need to do is to create a cyber security plan. You want to make sure that you have the plan set up as far in advance as you can. It's too late to start planning when you are already under attack or are sensing a threat. Ideally, your plan should consist of three parts, prevention, resolution, and restitution.

Prevention means that you have come up with a way to search for and identify threats and problems before they become attacks. Resolution is how you are going to solve the problem and make sure that you have filled any holes or issues with your security. Restitution involves figuring out how to handle the repercussions that your business, customers, and employees are dealing with because of the attack, leak, or problem. Setting all that up after the fact will be too late. However, you can refine your plan after an attack or threat is identified because it can show you where problems are. 

Install Security Software

You also want to make sure that you have plenty of security software. Think of the software as different fences. The fences are designed to keep out intruders, with each fence towards the center being harder and harder to break. Ideally, nothing will even get past the first fence, but if it does, there will be other fences to catch it.

In the case of your business's Internet security, your first fence is the firewall on your router. The firewall will help keep damaging programs and attacks from getting through to your computers. You will also have to make sure that you have firewalls on your computer, as a second line of defense. Security software should also include things like real-time malware and virus screening. Malware is software that is designed to damage your computer and may do things like plant spies inside your computers so that other people can see what's on it and can take control of it.
